A Peak At My Studio

Jennifer, at Gypsymarestudios recently posted some photos of her studio, and asked other artists to do it, too. I love seeing photos of other people's studios, so I thought I'd join in. Here are shots of my bookbinding studio:

I'm starting work on the second of the limp leather bindings that I talked about in my previous post, so I have some possible leathers spread out on my worktable right now. Decisions, decisions....

This is another work table where I punch holes in the leather covers so I can stitch the pages to the cover. There are some finished covers, plus my handy hammer and awl. Lots of hammering goes on here. Probably drives the neighbours crazy when I have the windows open in the summer.

This is what I see outside while I'm hammering. Notice the frost outside along the bottom of the window. Brrrrrrr!!!

My bulletin board. I never take anything off--just keep pinning on new layers.

My supervisor, Gretta.

An excellent old card file where I keep spools of bookbinding thread.

And finally, another work table with some of the books what I made :)

Yay! Thanks for posting pictures of your studios. Your books are amazing! I loved little Gretta too, such a sweet face.

Take care, Jen

Your studio is so much more organized than mine! My tastes are so schizophrenic. I can never settle down to make just one style of book, so I end up with bits and pieces everywhere.
I do love that old card file and your wood table. I'm a sucker for plain wood tables with clear varnish. Yum.

I love looking at people's studios too ! This looks the right mixture of energized and organized, if you know what I mean.

Gretta is lovely. My own supervisor is a white feline whose name is Jane. Our other cat, equally lovely, isn't much interested in supervising.

hello Gretta! I love seeing other's studio spaces and how they work... thanks for showing where my gorgeous books have been made:)

Love the new leathers and cannot wait to see what you do with them:)

That image of the card file with your linen thread in it makes me drool. It's so much more visually interesting than cramming it in a plastic shoebox (embarrassingly my storage method).

Thanks for the nice comment you left on my blog. I'm so glad you did because now I've found yours! Your books are so lovely, I hope to own one someday. And the process is so interesting. I can just imagine how nice it smells in your studio with all that good leather! :-)

I really love my old card file/thread storage box.
I found it in an antique/junk store.
I especially like antique stores that are crammed full of odd stuff, and have amazing bargains if you aren't afraid of dust, and of really getting in and rooting around. As I have a bit of a collection of "finds" from these stores, it's good to be able to use them.

Is Gretta a Schipperke? I have always wanted one of that breed--I';l bet she's a rascal and a delight!
